Description and Uses
Schizophyllan is an immunostirnulant polysaccharide related to lentinan, isolated from the culture filtrate of Schizophyllum commune. It is useful in combination with other antineoplastic treatments in the management of carcinomas of the lungs, stomach, uterus and breasts.
Schizophyllan (SPG), a member of the β-glucan family, is an exopolysaccharide with antineoplastic, antibacterial activities and antiparasitic properties. Schizophyllan can be used for petroleum recovery, a thickener for cosmetic lotions, oxygen impermeable films for food preservation, and high-value pharmaceutical applications[1][2].
