Description and Uses

Molybdenum(IV) selenide, also known as molybdenum diselenide, is an inorganic compound with the chemical formula MoSe2. It belongs to a group of compounds called transition metal disulfides (TMDCs), which are formed by combining a transition metal with an element from group 16 on the periodic table. MoSe2 has higher electrical conductivity than MoS2.

Molybdenum chalcogenide thin film transitors for solar cells are a rapidly expanding area of research and molybdenum selenide compounds play an important role in this research. The layered nature of MoSe₂ gives rise to several interesting applications such as field effect transistors ; piezoelectrics and substrates for self assembly
